Session Descriptions
Clue'd In: Unlocking Cohesion, Clarity, and Cognitive Load
The mystery of effective instruction isn't unsolvable — you just need the right clues. This session explores how cohesion, clarity, and cognitive load shape the learning experience, and what teachers and leaders can do to put all three to work.
Demystifying Specially Designed Instruction
This session provides a clear, common understanding of SDI's complexity to build essential capacity across all staff. Participants will gain practical tools and strategies specifically designed to support teachers in the effective planning and hands-on implementation of SDI. The session's ultimate goal is to empower all administrators with the knowledge required to confidently support and drive successful SDI outcomes.
Differentiated Strategies Look Fors
This 45-minute breakout session for SLS Teams and administrators focuses on identifying authentic differentiation during classroom walkthroughs. Participants will learn to move beyond "decorative" differentiation by identifying high-impact indicators like flexible grouping, choice boards, and data-driven instructional shifts. The session introduces specific "look-fors" that signal a teacher is effectively responding to student readiness and learning profiles. Beyond identification, we will explore actionable coaching moves and feedback stems to help teachers increase their daily utilization of these strategies. Attendees will leave with practical tools to ensure differentiation moves from a buzzword to a consistent classroom reality.
Put a SIOP in Your SIP
Content Target: In this session, I can align SIOP with school improvement goals and use data to prioritize PL and achievement.
Language Target: In this session, I can draft measurable, SIOP-driven goals for my SIP.
Special Education HLPs
School leaders will define High Leverage Practices (HLPs) and understand their role in improving student outcomes. They will explore how HLPs provide a consistent set of evidence-based strategies that can be applied across classrooms, identifying HLPs in action, and how to support their teachers in implementing them.
Student Discourse in Early Childhood
Student discourse with Dr. Thunder.
Student Discourse: The Board is Set for Each Player
In a fair game, every player needs the right resources to compete. To truly "Make Every Move Count," classroom discourse must be engineered so that language barriers or learning differences don't keep students on the sidelines. This session empowers leaders to move beyond "inviting" participation to "guaranteeing" it through intentional design.
Student Discourse: Setting the Board for Student Talk
This session invites you to take your seat at the table and master the mechanics of high-quality classroom talk. We will analyze the "Rules of Play"-- the essential elements that make student discourse effective-- and explore the specific "Teacher Gambits" required to facilitate them.
Title I/TSI: Including strategies from the beginning that meet TSI and Title I SIP requirements
This session supports administrators and their teams in including evidence-based interventions from the onset of SIP development that meets TSI and Title I requirements, how and where to document the use of funds, and monitor implementation and outcomes.
Universal Design for Learning
School leaders will understand the core principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) . They will explore how UDL provides a blueprint for addressing diverse learner needs and learn how to identify and observe UDL practices in classrooms.
What’s a SIOP? (And Why Your Teachers Need One)
In this session, Principals will identify 8 SIOP components and learn to monitor high-leverage strategies during instructional walkthroughs.
In this session, I can use the SIOP Protocol to facilitate focused, evidence-based coaching conversations with teachers that strengthen Tier 1 instruction.
